Hello all -

I will send this email once a week this month, to keep you up-to-date on the scholarship drive, and to remind you of the upcoming, brand-new retreat. Please pardon the repetition if you have already responded/these aren't revelent for you!

The October online writing retreat is starting this Saturday October 25. Sign up as soon as you can if you are interested. A reminder you can attend part(s) of the retreat - check the information below.

Also, the annual Ourspiral Scholarship Drive is on day TWENTY ONE as of today. We have raised $1185, almost half way (which will be matched to make $3585). You have until October 31 to contribute. We have matching funding again - this time, $2 for every $1 donated, with a goal of $7500 total ($2500 donated, $5000 matched). THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE GIVEN FUNDS SO FAR!

The annual Yo Quiero Dinero event (for which I am a mentor) will be November 8th this year. Here's a photo from the collage workshop I led for the group last week, using Lama Rod Owens' Seven Homecomings and Leesa Renee Hall's FIRE ancestry frameworks.

If you are interested in a possible Level II/Fields of Perception Miksang Contemplative Photography program via Atlanta Shambhala, on Sunday evenings Central US Time, please reach out. I don't have specifics for these yet but I can add you to a list. This will happen first quarter 2026, likely.

And finally, On October 10, Herspiral Arts moved. Our address is now 103 Owen Road, Monona, WI, 53716. We are moving because we will have more space, to stay will Tallgrass Osteopathy and Family Medicine, and with the collective that's been building will become more unified, as Stonehouse Sanctuary.

Every July and January for years now I have hosted writing retreats. But this fall, I am adding an October retreat and next spring, a March retreat. These "in between seasons" make for powerful writing periods as well. Because the summer retreat this year was in-person only, I am also offering this October retreat online only for those who otherwise would have attended the summer retreat hybrid.

This online writing retreat will involve our basic format online. I recommend you attend from the first day, Saturday October 25, as that is when we set up our community. If you wish to attend just one day, that’s the best one.

You can pay anywhere on the scale. If you have the ability to pay more, know you paying more will help someone who has to pay less. The inverse is true; if you have to pay less, know someone else will pay more to balance out what you need to pay. Go to the Herspiral Store and scroll down to see the options - $50, $100, or $150 a day, or Pay What You Can.

Daily schedule (general and subject to change, all times Central US):

9-10 Group practice

10-12 Solo practice

12-1 Group share

1-2 Lunch and break

2-3 Group practice

3-4 Solo practice

4-5 Group practice and closing

I suggest you sign up for Saturday to begin, especially if you haven't been to one of these retreats before, to get a sense of our rhythm and the community. I offer a wide sliding scale, with financial aid available (you don't have to apply, just choose the "Pay what you can" option), so as many folks can attend as possible.

OCTOBER ONLY - Annual Ourspiral Scholarship Fundraiser!

I cannot even begin to express what a relief and joy it is for me to be able to offer open, application-free financial assistance so my programs remain open to everyone while also being assured Herspiral Arts can pay it's bills (including paying me). It's an amazing feeling.

Many folks pay the top or sustainable prices for my programs, and still, there's always a gap. This year especially the matching grant is $2 for every $1 donated - TRIPLING whatever you give. So please offer whatever you can - $5 turns into $15, $25 into $75. As of October 21, we have already raised $1195, which is almost 1/2 the way and will turn into $3585 matched. Keep us going so we can get to $2500 donated matched to a total of $7500 by October 31. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE GIVEN FUNDS SO FAR!

Every year I am a guest teacher for this program through Midwest Mujeres, and this year, the program has grown and expanded! There is now a "Voice and Dream Academy," titled "Voices and Dreams: Our Stories Have Value," which is a months' long training that culminates in the Yo Quiero Dinero speaking event on November 8.

In closing,

As Palestine and Israel battle for lasting ceasefire, Chicago is (and so many other places are) still struggling under the extra oppressive weight of ICE and DHS. Please step in wherever you can - to pray, to lift a hand or a banner, to fight back. We need you all on any level you can participate.
